“Als u deze eigenschappen in overvloed bezit, is uw kennis van onze Heer Jezus Christus niet nutteloos maar vruchtbaar.” (2 Petrus 1:8 NBV)

5 Ja, juist om deze reden moet GIJ, doordat GIJ als weerklank van UW zijde ernstig elke krachtsinspanning bijdraagt,+ bij UW geloof deugd+ voegen, bij [UW] deugd kennis,+ 6 bij [UW] kennis zelfbeheersing, bij [UW] zelfbeheersing+ volharding, bij [UW] volharding godvruchtige toewijding,+ 7 bij [UW] godvruchtige toewijding broederlijke genegenheid, bij [UW] broederlijke genegenheid liefde.+ 8 Want indien deze dingen bij U bestaan en overvloedig zijn, zullen ze U beletten hetzij inactief of onvruchtbaar te zijn*+ met betrekking tot de nauwkeurige kennis van onze Heer Jezus Christus. Het beperkte aantal christenen dat door Jehovah is uitgekozen om met Christus in de hemel te regeren, ondergaat een nieuwe geboorte als door de geest verwekte zonen van God. Ze worden met heilige geest gezalfd om koningen en priesters met Christus te worden (Openbaring van de apostel Johannes 20:6). Petrus zegt dat die nieuwe geboorte ze „een levende hoop” in het vooruitzicht stelt. Die hoop noemt hij „een onverderfelijke en onbesmette en onverwelkelijke erfenis” die in de hemel voor ze is weggelegd. Geen wonder dat de gezalfden zich ’zeer verheugen’ in hun levende hoop! (1 Petrus 1:3-6) Maar de vervulling van die hoop hangt van hun getrouwheid af. Petrus spoorde gezalfden aan ’hun uiterste best te doen om hun roeping en verkiezing voor zichzelf vast te maken’ (2 Petrus 1:10). Ze moeten moeite doen om eigenschappen als geloof, godvruchtige toewijding, broederlijke genegenheid en liefde te ontwikkelen. w12 15/3 3:4, 5

We read the Word with our mind, build it into character in the heart, out of the heart come the attitudes, veiwpoints, behavior, and ministries of life. Producing and living in the atmosphere of the Sprit is a choice we are continually making every moment. If we are sincere in seeking God then we will produce fruit. That is the evidence of our Christian relationship with God. Everyone who does not produce fruit will be cut off and cast into the fire. Even Christians. Though they profess Christ as king, but if they do not produce fruit they are not true Christians. True Christians have the Holy Spirit within them. Those who have the Holy Spirit within them will produce fruit.
