„De zin van Christus”

De apostel Paulus wees er niet alleen op hoe belangrijk en nuttig het is geestelijk gezind te zijn, maar hij schreef ook veel over het wezen van ware spiritualiteit. Aan de christenen in de oude stad Korinthe legde Paulus het verschil uit tussen een fysiek mens, iemand die zich door de impulsen van het vlees laat leiden, en een geestelijk mens, iemand die grote waarde hecht aan geestelijke dingen. Paulus schreef:

„Een fysiek mens aanvaardt niet de dingen die van de geest Gods zijn, want ze zijn hem dwaasheid.”

De geestelijke mens daarentegen, zo legde Paulus uit, heeft als kenmerk dat hij „de zin van Christus” bezit.

11 Want wie onder de mensen weet de dingen van een mens behalve de geest+ van de mens, die in hem is? Zo is ook niemand de dingen Gods te weten gekomen behalve de geest+ van God. 12 Nu hebben wij niet de geest+ van de wereld ontvangen, maar de geest+ die van God komt, opdat wij de dingen zouden weten die ons door God goedgunstig zijn gegeven.+ 13 Deze dingen spreken wij ook, niet met woorden die door menselijke wijsheid+ worden geleerd, maar met [woorden] die door [de] geest worden geleerd,+ daar wij geestelijke [zaken] met geestelijke [woorden] combineren.*+

14 Maar een fysiek* mens aanvaardt niet de dingen die van de geest Gods zijn, want ze zijn hem dwaasheid; en hij kan [ze] niet te weten komen+ omdat ze geestelijk worden onderzocht. 15 De geestelijke+ mens* echter onderzoekt wel alle dingen, maar zelf wordt hij door geen mens onderzocht.+ 16 Want „wie heeft de zin van Jehovah* leren kennen,+ dat hij hem zou kunnen onderrichten”?+ Wij hebben echter wel de zin+ van Christus.* (1 Korinthiërs 2:11-14-16).

„De zin van Christus” hebben komt neer op het hebben van ’dezelfde geestesgesteldheid die Christus Jezus bezat’

5 Moge nu de God die volharding en vertroosting schenkt, geven dat GIJ onder elkaar dezelfde geestesgesteldheid+ hebt die Christus Jezus bezat, 6 opdat GIJ eensgezind+ met één mond de God en Vader van onze Heer Jezus Christus moogt verheerlijken. (Romeinen 15:5-6)

5 Bewaart die geestesgesteldheid* in U welke ook in Christus Jezus was,+ 6 die, alhoewel hij in Gods gedaante bestond,+ geen gewelddadige inbezitneming heeft overwogen,* namelijk om aan God gelijk te zijn.+ (Filippenzen 2:5-6).

Voetstappen in de duinen. Welke paden wil u betreden in in wiens voetsporen wenst u verder te stappen?

Met andere woorden, een geestelijk mens is iemand die denkt zoals Jezus en die in Zijn voetstappen treedt.

21 GIJ werdt trouwens tot deze [loopbaan] geroepen, want ook Christus heeft voor U geleden,+ U een model* nalatend opdat GIJ nauwkeurig in zijn voetstappen zoudt treden.+ (1 Petrus 2:21)

4 Daar Christus dan in het vlees heeft geleden,+ zo wapent ook GIJ U met dezelfde gezindheid;*+ want de persoon die in het vlees heeft geleden, heeft opgehouden te zondigen,+ 2 om de rest van [zijn] tijd in het vlees niet meer voor de begeerten van mensen te leven,+ maar voor Gods wil.+ (1 Petrus 4:1-2).

Hoe meer iemands instelling op die van Christus lijkt, des te sterker is zijn spiritualiteit en des te dichter is hij bij het verwerven van „leven en vrede”.

11 [Doet] dit ook omdat GIJ de gelegen tijd* weet, dat het uur reeds is aangebroken waarop GIJ uit de slaap dient te ontwaken,+ want thans is onze redding dichterbij dan toen wij gelovigen werden.+ 12 De nacht is ver gevorderd; de dag+ is nabij gekomen. Laten wij daarom de werken die tot de duisternis behoren, afleggen+ en de wapenen+ van het licht aandoen. 13 Laten wij betamelijk wandelen,+ zoals overdag, niet in brasserijen en drinkgelagen,+ niet in ongeoorloofde gemeenschap en losbandig gedrag,*+ niet in twist+ en jaloezie. 14 Maar doet de Heer Jezus Christus aan*+ en maakt niet van tevoren plannen voor de begeerten van het vlees.+ ( Romeinen 13:11-14).

All this points to the fact that Paul understood the reality of how important our mind is to our spirituality and how it is the true dwelling place of our motivation and decision-making mechanisms. If the enemy can have your mind, he can have the rest of you. God wants to occupy and fill your mind. It is here that the real change takes place.
